You could definitely connect your light to the reverse light circuit on the 7-way. All you need to do is run some wire like # DW02412-1 back to the light and splice it in on the light side of the switch. I don't know of any specific lighting regulations that wouldn't allow this but it is hard to keep track of everything. It is always a good idea to check with MO Highway Patrol.

Hi Alex; thanks for the photo and there are some trailer lights with that style of plug, which are bullet-style connectors such as # MCL110RKBF.
That's a small clearance light, and honestly that bullet-style is pretty uncommon. So you may be able to replace them it just depends on the lights. It sounds like your 12 volt light may have been wired to the trailers 7-way connection so the single 12 volt light would be able to have power when it is connected to a tow vehicle. It could also be connected to a breakaway battery located on the front of the trailer. This would be the only reason I would see someone having both 12 volt and 120 volt lights in a trailer. First thing you will want to check Steve is the settings on your 2020 Jeep Cherokee. Often times the running lights can stay on even after the ignition is switched off which would explain why the Curt Harness # C56406 allows the trailer lights to remain on after the ignition is switched off. There are a lot of potential factors here. It would help to know what kind of trailer you have or get a picture of the trailer and lights to determine what exactly you need. If this is a boat trailer that is a lot simpler than something like a large 5th wheel with more lights. It's a little weird that both your trailers are experiencing the same thing regardless of which vehicle they are connected to, but the best way to narrow everything down is to use a circuit tester # PTW2993 at the back of your vehicles to make sure the pins are sending the correct functions, and then apply 12V power to the various pins on your trailers 7-Ways to check and see how the lights act.

Based on the symptoms you're describing it just sounds like you're dealing with a lack of power. Everything works until you start putting too much of a load on the harness. Does your Suburban have a factory tow package/7-way or did you have to install one aftermarket? Older vehicles used to pull power from the vehicle tail lights to power the trailer lights and ended up drawing too much power and causing the lights to dim. We do not have a light assembly similar to the Peterson # 425000 that features a single wire design. It sounds like your existing light uses its mounting hardware for ground. The only difference with this particular assembly is that it will use a separate wire (white) for this purpose, that you would just need to attach to a clean bare metal surface on the trailer.

Hi Michael; for running lights like you want to use it'd be best to use surface-mounted lights. Not sure if you want red or white, but for white you can use the Dragon's Eye LED Utility Marker Light # DG52530VP.
For red you can use the Optronics LED Mini Clearance or Side Marker Trailer Light # MCL13R2B.

It sounds like you most likely had a fuse blow when you installed the Curt wiring. This is a common occurrence as a small short could have caused enough power to jump through the circuit and pop the fuse. As far as the trailer light not blinking, you will want to use a Test Light # PTW2993 to verify if the issue is on the trailer only or if the 4-way itself is not functioning properly. The Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK57VR(22125) does have a converter. The square box on the harness is the converter which senses power for the tail lights, turn signals and brakes to send to the appropriate functions of the trailer. What it sounds like to me is the trailer running lights are some how sending power to the brake lights which are brighter. This is a tough one. It is safe to say we can rule out the trailer since you plugged it into your Jeep and everything worked. I would also say you ruled out any issues with the aftermarket wiring harness. Since you have installed two different wiring harnesses and got the same result with both it is likely a problem with your 2011 Sorento factory wiring.
